Boone High School seniors Ally Thompson and Wesley Sharp completed several courses through DMACC (@DMACCBears) and participated in Tau Phi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, an international honors society for two-year colleges. 🎓
In March, Ally and Wesley were each named to the Phi Theta Kappa 2026 All-Iowa Academic Team, joining 80 students statewide from 15 Iowa community colleges. They were also among 24 DMACC students selected for this honor. This marks the first time BHS students have been named to the Phi Theta Kappa All-Iowa Academic Team.
In addition, Wesley was one of only eight Iowa community college students selected for the 2026 Coca-Cola Academic Team.

Connor Hammer is taking the next step after his Boone EDGE internship with VanWall, earning a full-ride opportunity to attend DMACC! He will specialize in Ag Power Diesel Mechanics with sponsorship from VanWall. ⚙️

Kyrie Miskell is turning her Boone EDGE experience into a full-ride opportunity at Upper Iowa University!
Through her internship with EDGE Advantage, she was accepted into the ExCEL program and will pursue her elementary education degree with her full tuition covered. 📚

Noel Malin, a junior at BHS, recently participated in the Moose Youth Awareness Program for the third consecutive year. This program challenges high school students to educate, persuade, and inspire younger students to make positive choices related to bullying prevention, substance use, healthy habits, and nutrition.
As part of the program, Noel wrote an article and led a lesson at Ledges Elementary focused on the importance of including others. His efforts earned him a nomination from Boone Moose Lodge #104 to attend the Association Youth Awareness Congress in Phoenix, Arizona.
Representing Iowa at the national level, Noel placed 6th overall. We are proud of his commitment to making a positive impact and sharing his message with students both locally and beyond. Congratulations, Noel! 🎉

BHS student Jennifer LaMar was recognized as a Borlaug Scholar at the annual Iowa Youth Institute sponsored by the World Food Prize!
Over 365 students participated in the event, which focuses on solving global food security. Jennifer presented research on "Seeds of Change: How Nicaragua Can Create a Lasting, Sustainable Future of Agriculture."
