Chelsey comes to us from Gladbrook-Reinbeck, where she taught 7th through 12th grade social studies. “I am excited to be a part of a great community and a district that is doing things to challenge and help students and staff grow,” shared Chelsey.
Outside the classroom, Chelsey enjoys cheering on Iowa State, reading, and going for walks. A fun fact about her—her husband is a boy/girl twin, and they now have boy/girl twins of their own! Their doctor says the twins are thanks to Chelsey, not her husband.

Derek brings experience from Greene County Middle School, where he taught 8th grade social studies, and from Central Lee High School, where he taught 9th-12th grade social studies.
“I am excited to be teaching in a school district that has such a strong sense of community and commitment to ensuring student success,” said Derek.
In his free time, Derek enjoys traveling and reading thrillers and crime fiction. A fun fact about him—he flintknaps, which means he creates tools, weapons, or art by shaping stone.

Helane is no stranger to our district, as she previously taught kindergarten for five years before spending the past four years at home with her three children. She and her family enjoy spending time outdoors hiking, biking, and visiting the park. They also love cheering on the Iowa State Cyclones!

Teachers across the district also came together for team planning to set goals, share ideas, and prepare for a successful year ahead.
To top it off, award-winning educator and leader Hamish Brewer inspired all staff with a powerful message about teaching with passion and purpose.
